Demi tells Ellen that her relapse of an eating and cutting disorder had everything to do with her personal life spinning out of control — but thankfully she’s overcome her personal struggles and is better than ever!
Demi Lovato has a lot to be happy about these days but her darkest hour wasn’t that long ago. The 19-year-old pop star stopped by the Ellen Degeneres Show to talk about her brand-new album Unbroken that debuted Sept. 20 and it’s already skyrocketed to the top of the charts! But while discussing her current highpoint in life, Demi tells her fans that her life was going “down at crazy speeds” when she suddenly entered rehab in November. “[My life] was called a mess. I don’t know what to really call it but yeah, I’ve called it a breakdown, a meltdown,” Demi reveals. “I went from being at the highlight of my career. Having a movie about to come out or just come out and being on this tour. Having so much success. So many things were going great in my life and then all of the sudden my personal life just went down at crazy speeds. I had a negative break down and it changed my life forever but I’m glad that it did because if I had never gone into the treatment. I don’t know if one, I’d even be sitting here today. Two, if I’d be alive today.”
Although Demi told Elle this past August that her breakup with Disney star Joe Jonas dumping her for Twilight star Ashley Greene didn’t have anything to do with her breakdown — do you think this new interview with Ellen says otherwise?
“I wouldn’t credit my meltdown to a guy,” she told Elle. “There was so much other stuff in my life.”
